PM Modi unveils roll on trophy for BRICS U-17 football tournament

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday unveiled the Roll On Trophy for BRICS U-17 Football Tournament to be held in Goa from October 5 to October 15.

He used the occasion to reiterate the nation's commitment to 'Sports for All' and 'Khelo India' and taking football to every corner of the country.

He emphasised that the youth being the leaders of the future, their shared understanding and bonhomie is an imperative to ensure that the BRICS Summit continues to receive the impetus it deserves.

Wishing the tournament grand success, he said he was confident that it will meet its objective of facilitating greater understanding and friendship amongst all participants.

 

Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports (Independent Charge) Vijay Goel, said the trophy symbolises the free and enterprising spirit of youth and strength and commitment of the BRICS nations towards solidarity in their global endeavours.

The tournament aims at taking the ongoing interaction and cohesion amongst the BRICS nations to a new level of exchange between the youth of these countries in the field of sports.

This will foster lasting understanding and friendship among the young. Perceived as a Roll On Tournament, it will be a harbinger of similar exchanges in other sports also.

The ceremony was attended by ambassadors and high commissioners of BRICS nations and other dignitaries.
