The Congress on Saturday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his speech on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and said the former is not suitable for his post as he lacks knowledge.
"They only speak and do not take any action and everyday they do politics. Narendra Modi is not suitable for his post, he lacks knowledge. He does not know how to maintain the decency of his post. If he would have maintained decency, then he would not have insulted those who have sacrificed their lives for the nation," Congress leader Anand Sharma told ANI.
"If he truly remembers Sardar Patel, then he should apologise first and clear it if he is sticking to the promise of undertaking of the RSS. He should also put the order of Sardar Patel beneath his statue in which he had ordered restrictions on the RSS. Then it will be a true respect to Sardar Patel," he added.
Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said that Sardar Patel has always belonged to the Congress and talking about his legacy is not right.
"This family (Nehru-Gandhi) has sacrificed its lives for the nation. If he (Narendra Modi) wants to unite the nation, then it should be done with a pure heart," Shukla told ANI.
Honouring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's immeasurable efforts in uniting the nation, Prime Minister Modi on Saturday reminded the nation that the legacy left behind by a great leader like Sardar Patel and Indira Gandhi must be passed to future generations.
The Prime Minister pitched the 'Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat' programme, where every year two states will connect and learn about each other's language and culture.
