Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute at a memorial in Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan to government personnel who had sacrificed their lives in line of duty while serving abroad.
Prime Minister Modi paid tribute after inaugurating a Heads of Mission Conference in New Delhi.
"PM @narendramodi and EAM @SushmaSwaraj pay homage to those who laid down their lives pursuing India's interests abroad," MEA official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted.
"The memorial sculpture is an array of six installations representing the theme 'Installations'. It comprises of six sandstone stems of a 'Bird of Paradise' flower in various stages of unfurling," he added.
The three-day conference will focus on what diplomacy can do for the country.
On previous occasions, the focus of the conference had been the impact of international issues on India and what the nation can do globally.
The theme of the conference this year is diplomacy for development.
