PM's RS term expires next month, notification issued in Assam for polls to two seats

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, whose term as Member of Parliament (MP) expires next month, will arrive in Guwahati on Wednesday to file his nomination for a fresh term.

Dr. Singh, who is a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, will also attend the Congress Legislative Party meeting at Dispur.

In Assam, notification was issued today to hold elections to two Rajya Sabha seats. According to official sources, May 20 is the last date to file nominations and the scrutiny of nominations will be held the next day.

Polls, if necessary, will be held on May 30.

The current term of Rajya Sabha members representing Assam, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Kumar Deepak Das will expire on June 16.
