The Lahore High Court granted bail to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday in Ashiana Housing Scheme scandal and Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

According to Geo TV, a two-judge bench heard bail petitions of Shehbaz and Fawad Hasan Fawad, the former principal secretary to then prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The bench rejected Fawad's bail petition in a case pertaining to holding assets beyond his means. However, his request for bail in the Ashiana Housing case was accepted.

On October 5, Sharif, the leader of Opposition in National Assembly and brother of Nawaz Sharif, was arrested by the NAB on charges of misusing authority and corruption in the Rs 14 billion Ashiana Housing Scheme during his tenure as the Punjab Chief Minister (2013 to 2018).

Sharif, however, had denied the allegations and termed them as "baseless".
