Police arrest hardcore Maoist in Koraput, seize explosives

In a joint operation conducted by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the police a hardcore Maoist, was arrested along with explosives today in Koraput .

Following receipt of intelligence, combing was launched in Koraput district of Odisha on Sunday to nab the red rebel, Satya Mandingi (25), alias Malla. Malla was caught in the Narayanpatna area after an exchange of fire.

Police said Malla has revealed useful information about few attacks planned by the Maoists.

"A joint operation involving teams from the 28th battalion of the BSF and police were sent to Narayanpatna. The perpetrator has been arrested. In the preliminary interrogation, he has given us information about a landmine being buried. A claymore mine was recovered and destroyed" said Inspector General, southwest region Odisha, Yaswant Jethwa.

 

During investigation, it was found that Malla was a member of the Laxmipur Area Committee under the Srikakulam-Koraput divisional committee of Maoists.

Malla was involved in several cases including murders and police were hunting for him. He was also involved in an IED attack in 2012 in which few paramilitary personnel were killed.

Apart from the mine, detonators, electric wire and batteries were also recovered from Malla.
