The police on Tuesday arrested a 33-year-old man after a package containing a suspected explosive device and ammunition was found at a vacant property in a central suburb in Christchurch.
The army bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot, according to John Price, the Canterbury District Commander Superintendent.
The incident comes a little over a month after the Christchurch terror attacks, where a suspected white supremacist targetted two mosques.
Fifty people lost their lives while as many were injured when the detained suspect allegedly opened fire at those congregated for Friday prayers at the mosques on March 15.
Nearby streets were evacuated after the suspected explosive was found, as per CNN. A no-fly zone was put in place over the area as a precaution.
