Police arrested three Maoists in Jharkhand's Khunti district on Tuesday.

The arrest took place after an encounter between police and members of rebel outfit People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) in Murhu forests in the district.

During the encounter, 25 rounds were fired by the police.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Khunti, Aneesh Gupta, said a commander of PLFI, Pradeep Karkatta who was behind many major Maoist incidents was also arrested.

"We had received information that Maoist commander of PLFI is active from Saiko till Balanga (districts of Jharkhand). His name is Pradeep Karkatta. He was out in the forests to conduct his next mission. So a team which was formed to conduct Maoist operation was active in a place called Dugutoli, located below Saiko. When we reached there, an encounter took place with PLFI in which three Maoists were arrested," said Gupta.

Gupta also informed about the arms and ammunitions recovered from the arrested Maoists.

"Around four rifles, one double barrel gun and bullets were recovered from the arrested Maoists, 14 bullets of 7.62 mm were recovered", he said.

This is the second major achievement for Jharkhand police against Maoists in a span of two consecutive days. Police had arrested six hardcore Maoists from other districts in Jharkhand on Monday.
