Police defused 20 kilograms of cane bombs, which was planted by Maoists in Bokaro in a bid to disrupt ongoing parliamentary elections.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Laxman Prasad Singh, said security personnel received intelligence inputs about the explosives during a combing operation.
"An informer tipped-off that 20 kilogram bombs are kept at a particular place. We went and recovered the bombs. We have requested the Hazaribagh team to diffuse it," he said.
The rebels had planted the explosives under a culvert, where security personnel were conducting search operation to ensure peaceful elections.
"It is a biggest festival of democracy. We want to ensure free and fair elections. Definitely, they (Maoists) wanted to disrupt it because they don't believe in the Constitution," added Singh.
