Acting on a tip off, Jharkhand Police have confirmed the seizure of a huge cache of explosives from a house in the state's Koderma District.

The owner of the house from where the explosives were found has been identified as Ayodhya Prasad Mehta.

"We have recovered 1500 detonators from the residence of Ayodha Mehta of Machgama village. However, we couldn't arrest him," police inspector Suman Kumar Sinha said.

Maoists have significantly increased their presence in the tribal and rural regions of Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.

The Maoists say they are fighting for the rights of millions of landless labourers and marginal farmers.

However, the government has termed them to be India's main internal security threat and an obstacle to growth in Asia's third-largest economy.

The Maoists have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since the 1960s.
