Jammu and Kashmir Police used coloured water cannon on Thursday to disperse the protesting contractual employees demanding regularisation at work.

More than 1000 people from different parts of the state gathered in summer capital Srinagar to stage a demonstration and shouted slogans against the state government.

The employees have been demanding release of their monthly services and regularisation for the people employed as daily rated workers by the government.

However, the protest soon turned ugly and the police was forced to baton charge the protesters apart from using coloured water cannon to thwart the protest march.

The coloured water cannons help the authorities in identifying the people involved in the protest and take action against them.

The protesters had blocked many roads in the city, affecting the lives of people commuting.

Police also detained many protesters but they were released later.

Contractual employees have been carrying our similar protests for a long time as they say the state government has failed to pay heed to their demands.
