Policemen roughed up by mob in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh

Residents of Uttar Pradesh's Etawah roughed up a policeman, for delay in dousing a fire, which killed one and injured another.

District head of Samajwadi party, Rajiv Yadav said that, there are a few fire brigades in the area, but are old and don't function properly causing delay in action.

"According to me there are three or four fire brigades out of which some are old , which do not work properly causing delay," said Yadav.

Fire broke out in the house of one Ramlakhan Gupta in the evening, when food was being prepared. It led to the death of Gupta's daughter- in- law and left his son seriously injured.

 

The house is situated in civil lines area of Etawah.

People of the town complained that the fire tenders reached the scene of the accident late and took a total of two hours to subdue the flames.

Disgruntled by the apathetic and delayed response of police and the fire department, people of the area expressed their ire and protested. They surrounded the local policeman Rajveer Singh, roughed him up by punching and slapping him.

Rajveer Singh, said that two people were caught in the fire, of whom one died.

"Chote had burn injuries and has been sent to the hospital for treatment while his wife died," said Singh.

Rajveer Singh reassured the public that authorities would take necessary steps to assist and compensate the family of the victim.
