The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs staged a protest against Bihar Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary here on Wednesday over his 'unethical and unconstitutional' move to declare the Janata Dal (United) as the main opposition party.
"The BJP's doubts have been proved true. We had yesterday stated that the assembly office is functioning like the JD (U) office and this is the first time in history that the JD (U) will sit both in the opposition and government. This is unethical and unconstitutional," said BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav.
Janata Dal (United) leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has reportedly been made the Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly, replacing Yadav.
The BJP had earlier today stated that its central leadership would study the ongoing political crisis in Bihar and very soon announce its decision about supporting Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on the floor of the state assembly.
Earlier this week, JD (U) chief Sharad Yadav had suspended seven ministers loyal to Manjhi from the party, claiming that they have not followed the party's directive.
Manjhi, however, remains confident of gaining the vote of confidence in the assembly, ahead of the floor test tomorrow.
