Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that Jayaprakash Narayan gave birth to a new kind of politics in the nation and added that the political generation born during the Emergency was fully dedicated to democratic values.

"JP Movement, Navnirman Movement, Emergency...they gave birth to a new kind of politics in the nation and many people in politics today owe their initial days to those days of Emergency," Prime Minister Modi said while speaking at an event - Loktantra Prahari Abhinandan - organised on the occasion 113th birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan at Vigyan Bhavan here.

"The political generation born during the Emergency was fully dedicated to democratic values, inspired by Jayaprakash Narayan," he added.

Prime Minister Modi said that Jayaprakash Narayan was a person with an open mind.

"He was not restricted to one thought or ideology. He lived for the truth and what he felt was right," he added.

Prime Minister Modi further said that the pillars of democracy were attacked during the Emergency.

"The media of this country must not let forget the days of Emergency because it had attacked the freedom of media. It must not be remembered for criticising but for our commitment to the democracy," he added.
