Post Vijender Singh's historic win in the WBO Asia Pacific Middleweight title fight, politicos expressed their happiness and showered their praises on him.
Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla congratulated Vijender and said the way he has won, would motivate others and would also promote the sport.
"Many many congratulations to him. We had come to cheer for him. For the first such event like professional boxing is taking place. The way Vijender Singh has won will motivate everyone and will also promote this sport," he added.
"Our hero is Vijender Singh. He has popularized boxing in the world. He has popularized India once again. Vijender is the best," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shahnawaz Hussain told the media here.
Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel said different sports are getting recognition in the nation and people are also showing interest in them.
"Olympics is coming and we will perform well in that as well," he added.

Boxer Vijendra Singh clinched his seventh victory by beating Kerry Hope in the WBO Asia-Pacific Super Middleweight title at the Thyagraj Sports Complex in New Delhi on Saturday.
Singh beat Kerry Hope (98-92, 98-92, 100-90) to win the super middleweight belt.
