Polling begins in Mizoram, borders sealed

Polling began in Mizoram on Friday morning amid tight security. Polling is being held for one Lok Sabha seat and for the Hrangturzo Assembly seat.

In all, 696,448 voters, including 341. 934 males and 354, 514 females, are eligible to vote today.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls in the state. International borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh and inter-state borders too have been sealed.

The Election Commission of India had postponed the Lok Sabha poll for Mizoram, which was initially scheduled to be held on April 7 to Friday, as a Mizoram-based civil society bodies had called for a 72-hour-long shutdown across the state in protest against Bru refugees in Tripura being allowed to exercise their franchise via postal ballot.
