Polling has begun for the Delhi Cantonment Board elections amid elaborate security arrangements here on Sunday.
Polling began at 8 am in the morning and will go on till 5 pm in the evening.
64 candidates are in fray for eight seats across Delhi Cantonment with Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) being the major political parties contesting the elections.
"There are 8 wards in the Delhi Cantonment Board elections which is taking place today. There are 64 candiditaes, 3 recognized political parties Congress, BJP and AAP. The polling is going on in 100 polling sations across the cantonment area. We have made elaborate security arrangements for it. Counting of votes will take place on January 12," said Returning Officer M S Vats.
Cantonment Board elections are being seen as a precursor to assembly elections through which political parties will gauge the public mood.
The counting of votes will be held on January 12.
