'Poltergeist' director Tobe Hooper dies at 74

Hollywood's pioneer of horror genre, Tobe Hooper, has died in Sherman Oaks, California. He was 74-year-old.

According to Variety, the Los Angeles county coroner confirmed the filmmaker's death.

The cause of his death is still unknown.

Hooper made two of the most distinguished films in the fright genre which set the movie world abuzz with movies like Poltergeist in 1982 and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in 1974, one of the most influential films of the horror genre.

The legendary director was a native of Austin, Taxes. He was a college professor and documentary producer before branching out to direct in 1974.

The late director is survived by two sons.
