Pope Francis has reached Ecuador for the first leg of his seven-day Latin America visit.
According to BBC, this is the Pope's second visit to Ecuador since becoming pontiff in 2013.
In a speech on the Quito airport runway, the Pope said that development and progress "must ensure a better future for all."
The Vatican said that his trip will centre on the issue of poverty and inequality.
The pontiff will also visit Bolivia and Paraguay but not his home country, Argentina, during this trip.
