Pope Francis to visit Istanbul in first trip to Muslim country

Pope Francis will visit Istanbul in November which will be his first trip to a predominantly Muslim country.

According to the BBC, the Pope is likely to mark November 30th as an important Orthodox feast day with Ecumenical Bartholomew I, the spiritual leader if the world's orthodox Christians.

The trip will give Pope Francis a good chance to speak to the Muslim world at a time when the Islamic State militants are targeting non-Muslims in Iraq and Syria.

The Pope said in a statement that military force was legitimate to stop the IS militants but international communities should decide what could be done.

 

Pope Francis had wanted to visit Kurdistan to show his concern for Christian who ahd been forced to flee homes. However, he sent a personal envoy since it was not possible to visit the place.
