Pope Francis has warned that a 'piecemeal' World War III may have begun already with the existing wave of massacres, destruction and crimes.

The Pope said during his visit to Italy's largest military cemetery that war was madness and that humanity should cry at this time, reported the BBC.

The Pope commemorated the cemetery of World War I near Slovenia.

He said earlier that the international communities should take steps to curb the 'unjust aggression' that was being practiced by Islamic State (IS) militants who have killed and displaced thousands of people in Iraq and Syria.

Pope has called for an end to violence in Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, Gaza and parts of Africa.
