A municipality health initiative in Dubai to let residents lose their weight in gold has drawn overwhelming response from people with 5,000 people signing up the campaign on the first day alone.
According to Gulf News, the 'Your Weight in Gold' campaign is expected to receive a total of at least 10,000 before it ends.
However, some residents expressed their confusion regarding registrations, as they had not yet received an SMS confirming their participation despite queuing in line for over two hours.
A lady said that she had found about the campaign on Facebook and joined it for fun more than the monetary incentives, adding that exercising while fasting was difficult to manage, and she planned to use the treadmill immediately after Iftar.
The campaign runs from July 19 to August 16, and aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage residents to achieve optimal body weight, with the top three winners who lose the most going to win gold equivalent to 20,000 dirhams.
