Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to be launched in Odisha on June 20

The state-level launch of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, a scheme for providing free LPG connections to women from BPL households, will be held in Sambalpur on June 20.

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan are scheduled to flag it off.

According to sources, it is planned to increase the number of LPG customers in Odisha from 39 lakh at present to 80 lakh by December 2018 through this scheme.

The scheme has already been launched regionally by the Centre in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Under the scheme, Rs 8000 crore has been earmarked for providing five crore LPG connections to BPL households. The scheme provides a financial support of Rs 1600 for each LPG connection to the BPL households.
