Security in Jharkhand was being tightened on Friday, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled rallies in the state. The Prime Minister is scheduled to address two rallies in Daltonganj in the Palamau district and Chandwa in the Latehar district for the upcoming legislative assembly elections in the state.
Security forces were on full alert in these areas after an intelligence report reportedly claimed that there could be a possible joint operation by the Naxals and the Indian Mujahideen (IM) to target the Prime Minister or to disrupt his rallies.
Palamu is one of the most Naxal-infested districts of Jharkhand.
The first phase of the five-phased polling in Jharkhand will be held on Tuesday for the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly. The counting of votes will take place on December 23.
