The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has greeted people of India on the eve of Raksha Bandhan.
"On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I convey warm greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens in India and abroad." Mukherjee said in a statement released by Rashtrapati Bhawan .
The thread of Rakhi binds sisters and brothers in an inseparable bond of love and trust. This festival underlines the need for enhancing efforts for the welfare of women and for all men to do their utmost to ensure the safety and security of women in society.
"May this festival be an occasion when we all pledge that we will dedicate ourselves to the well-being of the women of India, particularly the girl child". Mukherjee added.
