President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday expressed deep anguish and strongly condemned the terror strike on the Army Public School in Peshawar and called for redoubling efforts to root out terror from every country.
"The world community must unite and redouble efforts to root out terror from every country and society," said President Mukherjee.
The President was reacting to the ongoing attack on Peshawar's Army Public School by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has reportedly led to the death of 130 people, including at least 100 students.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called the terror strike as a 'senseless act of unspeakable brutality', and added that India offers the families of the victims its deepest condolences.
According to reports, around 10 terrorists had stormed the Peshawar school dressed as Frontier Corps officers. Two to three militants were killed while scaling its walls. One of the militants reportedly blew himself up, while another terrorist is believed to still have over 50 captives in his custody.
A strong contingent of police and security forces reached the spot and blocked the area as the operations took place. The police have also reportedly surrounded the school perimeter.
Meanwhile, TTP spokesman Muhammad Khorasani has said that the attackers were instructed to target the older students but not the younger ones.
