President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday condoled the loss of lives and damage to infrastructure in Chennai and several others parts of Tamil Nadu due to heavy rains.
"Saddened by loss of human lives & serious damage to infrastructure in Chennai due to heavy rains," President Mukherjee said in his tweet.
"My prayers and good wishes are with the people of Tamil Nadu during this difficult time," he added.
He expressed confidence that the people of Tamil Nadu will overcome the tragedy with 'fortitude and dignity'.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa will today conduct an aerial survey of flood affected areas of Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallu.

Meanwhile, the death toll in rain related incidents in the state has crossed 200.
The rescue operation by the NDRF teams is in full swing.
