In a statement released by President Pranab Mukherjee, Justice Handyala Lakshminarayanaswamy Dattu of the Supreme Court has been named as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI).
In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of article 124 of the Constitution of India, President Mukherjee announced that Justice Dattu will be the CJI with effect from September 28, taking the reins from the incumbent Rajendra Mal Lodha.
