ANI Washington DC

U.S. President Barack Obama has urged Pakistan to limit development of its nuclear weapons program which if not stopped or reduced, could lead to increased risks and instability in the South Asian region.

Washington is attempting to persuaded Islamabad to announced a unilateral declaration of 'restraint,' Reuters reported

Pakistan, on the other hand, has maintained that small tactical nuclear weapons are required to counter a sudden attack from India.

President Obama's recommendation came a few days after a Bulletin of Atomic Scientists report had estimated that Pakistan will become the fifth largest nuclear power state by 2025 on the basis of their nuclear warheads development performance over the past 20 years and its current weapons deployment.
