Princess Diana's former bodyguard, Ken Wharfe, has rubbished rumors that SAS was somehow involved in the death of the princess, claiming that the speculation are no more than a 'publicity stunt'.

The claim was made in a letter, which was sent by the former parents-in-law of a Special Forces sniper, called Soldier N, during the court martial of Sgt Danny Nightingale.

During an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Wharfe, who was Diana's Metropolitan Police bodyguard from 1987 to 1993, said that if these parents were so concerned that this information was relevant or had some general import, then they should have delivered it to the inquest, the Daily Express reported.

Wharfe asserted that the parents should not have taken so long to air this new information because now it just seems so shallow.

He added that the new episode in the princess' death would soon blow over.

The Princess of Wales was killed in a car crash, along with her lover Dodi Fayed, in Paris.
