Former South Africa pace bowler Meyrick Pringle has advocated the use of bouncers, admitting that banning it would take away the fabric of Test cricket following the tragic demise of late cricketer Phillip Hughes.
Pringle, who played four Tests and 17 ODIs for South Africa, stated that bouncers should never be scrapped and it would take away the zip from the Test cricket if it happens. He further said that objective should be to protect the back of the head, adding that helmet manufacturers should re-think about their products structure, Sport24 reported.
He believes that something should be done to the back of helmets in order to protect unprotected area. The ICC should take stringent measures in order to ensure that the players too wear proper helmets, he added.
The 25-year-old South Australian batsman, who was pushing for a Test recall against India in Brisbane next week, was knocked out after the ball made impact under his helmet, behind his left ear.
