West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suspended Presidency Jail on-duty staff after Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and Saradha scam prime accused Kunal Ghosh attempted suicide earlier today.
"Presidency jail's superintendent, attending doctor, nurse and on-duty staff of the hospital have been suspended," said Banerjee.
Earlier today, Ghosh was hospitalized after he allegedly tried to commit suicide in jail. A suicide note and sleeping pills were also recovered from his cell. He is currently reported to be in a stable condition in the Critical Care Unit of SSKM Hospital.
"Kunal Ghosh has access to two-three pills as his regular prescription. He said he took pills at 2.30 am. At 2:33 am he went walking to SSKM hospital, not in a stretcher," West Bengal Prison Minister HA Safi told ANI.
Ghosh was arrested last year in connection with the Saradha Chit Fund scam.
Last Monday, he had threatened to commit suicide when he was produced before the special CBI court probing the scam demanding immediate arrest of those who were involved in the scam.
