Police and empoyees from the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions were attacked Saturday by pro-Telangana activists, as the former sought to take part in a rally organised here by the Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers Association.
The rally was being held even as the Telangana Joint Action Committee called for a daylong shutdown that disrupted life in Hyderabad.
The venue of the " Save Andhra Pradesh" rally was the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, and pro-Telangana activists threw stones at people making their way into the stadium.
Police have reportedly taken several people into their custody on charges of disturbing law and order.
Those taken into custody were primarily picked up from the Nizam College hostel as well as the university.
Meanwhile, Telangana Rashtra Samiti legislators staged a "deeksha" near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, close to the State Assembly premises, to protest against the state administration's discriminatory attitude.
