A whistle blower in the Vyapam scam, Ashish Chaturvedi, said here today that several deaths could have been prevented if Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had agreed to a CBI probe earlier.

"Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should have taken this step long back. If the case was handed over to CBI earlier then maybe a lot of these deaths could have been prevented. I hope that even the high profile people involved will be investigated and those found guilty will be punished," Chaturvedi told ANI.

Chaturvedi further said that the Chief Minister had agreed to CBI investigation under pressure.

"He did not agree to this willingly, but only because of the public opinion and pressure," he said.

Chouhan had earlier in the day said that he will request the High Court to ask the CBI to conduct an inquiry into the Vyapam scam.
