Protestors block roads in Assam over land dispute killing

Protesters on Thursday said that they will continue to block roads connecting Assam with Arunachal Pradesh till the latter hands over miscreants involved in a violence that claimed 10 lives.

Ten people were killed and 12 others injured after a dispute over eviction from encroached land in Sonitpur.

The residents of Bihali have chosen the path of road blockage against people of Arunachal Pradesh. Until the government of Arunachal Pradesh hands over the culprits to Assam, the protest will continue, said the president of, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Akhil Gogoi.

A group of armed people raided the village in the district and killed at least 10 people.

 

Reportedly, the Assam Director General of Police confirmed that all the victims were from Assam and part of a vigilante group.
