Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has said that he is hopeful that his club will not give up on their bid to prise Wayne Rooney away from Manchester United.

Although United has repeatedly insisted that Rooney is not for sale, with boss David Moyes statement that former boss Sir Alex Ferguson's tribute to Rooney should not be viewed as an 'olive branch', PSG is encouraged that a deal can yet be struck.

According to the Mirror, Silva believes that PSG can yet sign Rooney as his future at United is not certain, adding that Rooney himself has made it clear that he would like a new challenge.

Urging Rooney to join the French moneybags if he still feels that way in January or even next summer, Silva also said that his club is the most exciting project in European football, adding that it is clear from the ambition of their owners that they are going to be a successful side.

The report mentioned that Ferguson had recently lavished praise on Rooney following his two-goal contribution to United's 4-2 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen.
