Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday said Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is making banal and pointless allegations against External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, and that was the reason why the people of India don't take his political utterances seriously.
"Rahul Gandhi is continuously making banal and baseless allegations. Everything will be clear if they allow Sushma ji to speak. Why are they (Congress) afraid of a discussion in the house?", said Gadkari.
"The Congress Party doesn't want the development of the country because they have been completely unsuccessful. So, they are following the policy where no bill is passed and no development takes place....They have been making false allegations. I think the people of India don't take them seriously," he added.
Earlier, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said that in order to let the Parliament function, Sushma Swaraj should let the country know how much money has been credited to her account by former IPL chief Lalit Modi.
"Please explain to the country and the people of India, how much money has been credited to you and your family's bank account by Mr. Lalit Modi? Tell it straight, the House will function," said Rahul Gandhi.
"We also agree that the Parliament must function, but we have raised a basic issue. We've said that, Sushma Swaraj ji, the Rajasthan Chief Minister and the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister have carried out, in some cases, illegal acts," he added.
