ANI Moscow [Russia]

Prominent Russian Opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been jailed for 30 days by a court in Russia, on charges of aiding in organising of mass public protests.

The arrest came early on Monday before a nationwide protest against corruption, which ended with hundreds of demonstrators taken into police custody.

Navalny was taken away by the police from his home on Monday and his wife wrote on his Twitter account, posting a photo of him getting into a police car.

Navalny had called on his supporters to mark Russia Day with protests against the 'corrupt system of rule' by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
