Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he is hopeful of a permanent ceasefire in Ukraine, after he met with French counterpart in Moscow.
According to the BBC, French President Francois Hollande is the first Western leader to visit Russia since the Ukraine crisis began this year.
President Putin said that he hoped that a decision is reached soon and it was discussed in detail with Hollande.
Putin said that the two held detailed talks over ending the violence in Ukraine.
He said that the situation was "tragic" and that people were being killed.
Western countries have imposed trade sanctions on Russia following its support of pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine.
