Russian President Vladimir Putin has been reportedly planning how Moscow would annex parts of Ukraine and the President's office allegedly compiled a detailed roadmap for annexing the eastern part of the country 12 months before the offensive began in the area, show leaked documents.
According to the Independent, the document showed that Russia had identified the former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych as "politically bankrupt" and planned how a "coup" would lead to Russian expansion.
The reports, however, could not be independently verified.
The plan also showed an assessment of Yanukovych whom Russia presented as a victim of a coup and the only legitimate leader of Ukraine.
