A day after five people belonging to the Hazara community were gunned down by suspected militants in Quetta, the city observed a 'shutter-down strike', with shops and business centres at the Bacha Khan Chowk, Alamdar Road and Liaquat Bazar areas remaining closed.

At least 500 people from the community staged protests against the incident, which marked the latest in a series of targeted violence in Balochistan's capital city, reported the Dawn.

The protesters placed the coffins of the victims on the road and chanted slogans against the government for failing to protect them.

Meanwhile, the police said that they had detained five suspects involved in the recent sectarian killings.
