Nissan recently announced the opening of Nissan Motor Asia Pacific (NMAP) R and D Test Center in Thailand.

The new test center will be the main R and D hub for ASEAN to better address customer needs in the region and to align more quickly to market requirements.

Kazutaka Nambu, President of Nissan Motor Thailand Co Ltd., "The NMAP R&D Test Center represents an important milestone not only for Nissan's presence here in the Kingdom of Thailand but also in the overall development of Thailand's dynamic automobile industry."

Nissan Motor Asia Pacific was established in Bangkok in 2011 as a subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., to act as the regional headquarters for marketing, sales, R and D, Monozukuri strategies, product planning, business management and finance control.

By opening of the testing center, NMAP has made an additional investment of more than one billion Thai baht to this 6,600 square meter facility.

By the end of this fiscal year, a total of 330 staff will be employed.

Hiroshi Nagaoka, Vice President, Nissan Motor Co Ltd., said, "At the front line of the Southeast Asian region, our first mission is to perceive the requests from the market correctly. It is important to get close with the local people, and grasp Thailand's customers' needs. Also, unfortunately, if we provide cars that are not suitable to customers' needs, it means the quality needs to be improved. However, if that issue can be solved on the spot, it will give customers a big impact. Therefore, always maintaining the quality and always seeking improvements are two tasks for us. In order to do so, funds are needed. To achieve this, the cost must be lowered. One of the solutions is sourcing the parts locally. On top of it, creating new technologies can lower the production cost. By doing so, saved costs can be used in investing in new developments, improving products' efficiency, and creating new values that satisfies customers' needs."
