Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, said on Saturday that senior Congress leaders would decide about the possibility of an alliance between his party and Janata-Dal United (JDU).
Gandhi, who is on a visit to Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, said that the party has done its job wherever it has formed the government or is in alliance.
"These are internal matters of the Congress party and frankly these decisions are not made by me personally. Senior leaders of the Congress party make these decisions. So, it's not for me to give invitations to anyone. As far as I am concerned I have got one focus as I have already mentioned to you that wherever we are in government, wherever we are in partnership we do our job, we do it aggressively," said Gandhi.
"The focus from my perspective is empowerment of people and as far as the political aspect is concerned empowerment of the Panchayats (village bodies) and ensuring that devolution of power takes place and power goes to local representatives as well. That is what I want to say," he added.
Janata Dal (United) had been mulling over ending the alliance with BJP post selection of the chief minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi as head of party's campaign in upcoming national elections.
The chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar had said that he was against the projection of chief minister of western Gujarat state, Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 national elections.
The JD-U had said that they would reconsider the alliance after senior BJP leader, Lal Krishna Advani had quit from the top positions of the BJP.
Recently, Gandhi was anointed vice-president of the party, which carried India to independence from the British and has ruled for much of the 66 years since, headed four times by his kin.
