Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will today address an election rally in Himachal Pradesh's Dharamsala town in an attempt to garner people's support ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Gandhi was earlier scheduled to address the rally on March 8 but later it was postponed.

On Wednesday, Gandhi appreciated the talented youth of Manipur who have brought laurels from national and international arenas at various sports events.

Speaking in a public meeting at Wangjing Kodompokpi which falls within the reserved Outer Manipur constituency on Wednesday, Gandhi said that the youth have proved their mettle and assured that the government will bring about employment generation.

He further said that the people of Manipur should feel at home in every part of the country, and added that he want Indian ideas to grow from ground level.

"We look at one idea on top of the whole India. We want Indian ideas to develop from the ground level. We believe that the people of Manipur should feel at home in any part of the country," he said.

"We believe that every single idea that an Indian person has adds to the beauty of this country. There might be some disagreements between us but it is the philosophy of the Congress party to respect every single person. This is the basic difference between us and the principle opposition," he added.

He also said that in 1972 Indira Gandhi had visited Manipur and had participated in the function that gave Manipuri people their state.

"At that time she (Indira) had said that Manipur is the real gem and we wish that shines like one. This statement actually goes very deep into how she and the Congress Party think about Manipur," he said.
