Railway Ministry launches passenger and freight friendly IT initiatives

To provide more hassle-free services to railway users, Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda has launched new information technology initiatives and applications.

These initiatives have been developed by Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Railways.

Gowda also inaugurated a new Rail Neer Plant at Ambernath, (Mumbai) of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a Public Sector Undertaking of Ministry of Railways via remote control.

Gowda said Indian Railways with its passenger reservation system has the distinction of having one of the largest and robust citizens centric IT Systems in the world.

He, therefore, said that as the number of trains and the services of Indian Railways is growing constantly, matching IT systems should also be developed simultaneously to meet the demands of the passengers.

 

He said that the Indian Railways needed to use IT services extensively in passengers services, freight services, bring operational efficiency and staff welfare.

The new applications developed by CRIS, are; NGet, Freight E-Demand Registration, E-Diversion of Coal rakes, Go India Card, Next Generation e-ticketing (NGeT).
