Railways should not be held responsible for Amritsar mishap: Nitish Kumar

Expressing grief over the Amritsar train accident in which 59 people were killed, Bihar Chief Minister and former railway minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday said that the railways cannot be held responsible for the mishap.

Nitish said that the railways were not informed about Dussehra celebration being organised near the railway track adding that the organsiers should have been more careful with the security arrangements.

"One who organises such function should have been careful. A train cannot be stopped immediately. They should have made proper arrangement. I don't know who gave the permission to organsie the event there," he said.

59 people were killed and 57 sustained injuries after a train ran over the crowd watching Dusshera celebrations near Jhoda Phatak are in Choura Bazar on Friday evening.
