Reacting to Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit's statement, former Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen (Retired) Raj Kadyan today said that Pakistan is running a proxy war for the last 25 years.
"This statement of Pakistan army is obviously a reaction to PM Narendra Modi's statement about proxy war emanating from Pakistan. We want moral support, but they are not giving any of that," said Kadyan.
"From the last twenty-five years they are running a proxy war. Pakistan has always resorted to using arms. It seems that nothing is in Nawaz Sharif's control," he added.
Earlier today, Congress leader Manish Tewari said that after the Pakistan High Commissioner's statement saying terrorist movement in Jammu and Kashmir needs to be given moral material and all other forms of support, the government should call off the upcoming foreign secretary meet on 25th August.
"If the Pakistan High Commissioner feels that the terrorist movement in Jammu and Kashmir needs to be given moral material and all other forms of support then I would like to ask this government that what is their foreign secretary going to do in Islamabad on the 25th of August. Why doesn't India call off the foreign secretary talks?" asked Tewari.
During the celebration of Pakistan's 68th Independence Day at Pakistan High Commission, Abdul Basit said, "I would also like to extend moral and diplomatic support to people of Jammu and Kashmir in their legitimate struggle, which is enshrined in UN charter and universal declaration of human rights".
