Raja says people's anger against Congress has led to BJP surge in polls

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja on Friday said that it was the people's anger against the Congress, which has allowed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -led NDA to surged ahead in initial trends, and probably emerge as the single largest party after the counting of votes ends.

"The trends show that BJP is clearly emerging as the single largest party. It shows NDA is emerging as largest coalition. It is the expression of anger of the people towards Congress. As of now the trends show BJP and NDA emerging as largest group," Raja said.

He also expressed hope for the Left doing well in its traditional bastions.

 

"As far as the Left is concerned, the trend shows that the Left is expected to do well in Bengal, Tripura and Kerala," Raja said.

Latest results aired on television channels show the opposition National Democratic Alliance leading in 295 seats (+ 157), UPA leading in 77 seats (-147) and others leading in 147 (-11) The leads are available for 520 out of the 543 seats that are up for grabs

Counting of votes to elect representatives to the 16th Lok Sabha and four State Assemblies-Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim-began at 8 a.m. this morning amid tight security.

The exit polls have projected that the BJP and its allies would touch the half-way mark in the 543-member Lok Sabha. Most polls show the incumbent UPA regime getting between 101 and 148 seats.
