Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the stampede that took place at the Pushkaralu ghat in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.
Singh took to twitter to share his thoughts.
"Heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in stampede at Rajahmundry and pray for speedy recovery of the injured," he said.
At least 16 people have died and 25 others are injured in the stampede in Andhra Pradesh.
The tragedy took place during the 'Maha Pushkaralu' festival.
Officials fear that the death toll is likely to rise as some of the injured are in a serious condition.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Government has announced Rs. 10 lakhs as compensation to the families of the deceased.
