BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla on Saturday attempted to downplay the non-inclusion of off-spinner Parvez Rasool in any of the five ODI games against Zimbabwe, saying the team management takes a final call on the playing XI depending on the wicket condition and composition.

"When someone gets selected in Team India, it is a very big achievement. Rasool has been selected because of his hard work. It is for the team management, the captain and the coach they decide as to who will play depending on the wicket condition, team's combination and composition," said Shukla.

"So, we should leave it to them. There is no need to be worried. He will definitely get the chance in future matches," he added.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has criticized the BCCI for not fielding Rasool in any of games against Zimbabwe, and urged that the cricketer be given a chance to prove himself.

Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) chairman Aslam Goni also expressed his disappointment at Rasool not being included, and expressed hope that he is given a chance in the future matches.

"We were very happy when we got the news of his selection in Team India. We wanted him to play, but it does not depend on what we want. These are technical matters. The team's coach, manager and captain take a final call (on the paying eleven). Definitely, we are not feeling good," Goni told media in Jammu.

"But it can't be helped. Let us hope that he plays better matches in the future," he added.

Rasool, who made his first-class debut for Jammu and Kashmir in the 2008-09 season, has played 17 first-class matches, scoring 1003 runs and taking 46 wickets.

The off-spinner, who is the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to be inducted in Team India, was named in the India A squad for a tour game against Australia in February this year. He played his first IPL season for Pune Warriors.
